ARTist HARUKA.

Contemporary artist — Tokyo, Japan

HARUKA is a Japanese artist whose practice centers on painting and mixed-media relief works. Active since 2015, she has participated in more than 30 exhibitions in Japan and abroad.

Each body of work begins with a theme inspired by questions, observations, and reflections on the time and society in which it is created.

Through layered materials such as washi (Japanese paper), rich textures, and symbolic imagery, HARUKA explores how invisible memories and emotions become embedded in objects, spaces, and personal histories.

Recurring motifs such as keys, keyholes, scales, flowers, and human figures symbolize themes of freedom and restraint, choice, rebirth, and transformation.

Each exhibition is conceived as an independent narrative, presenting questions about contemporary society through both personal experience and universal human themes.

Moving between abstraction and symbolism, the works exist at the intersection of painting and object, carrying a strong physical presence while inviting emotional and intellectual engagement.

For HARUKA, each exhibition is a letter to society and a letter to the self. The works are not intended to provide answers. Rather, they create a space where viewers can encounter their own memories and emotions.

When a work resonates with an individual's experience and gives rise to new interpretations, it gains a deeper sense of meaning and vitality. This ongoing dialogue between artwork and viewer lies at the core of HARUKA's practice.
